Kamiya Calling Karthik
Posted: February 28, 2010 05:35 by kamiya
I have never been so curious to know the suspense. And that is exactly that makes Karthik Calling Karthik so special.
We all love the underdog, don’t we? Reserved, shy and someone who can never say ’No’. Karthik is one such character and his transformation is joyous to watch. At his every success, you celebrate in your heart as it’s your own victory. From him getting a promotion at work to wooing his dreamgirl, you want to try the tricks he did.
And the phone ringing everyday at 5 am gives goosebumps not just to Karthik but even the audience and you just hope that this film has a logical ending. And thank god, it has. Not too different from your imagination but something that will not make you say, ‘how stupid is that!’ Ok, a little bias towards the romance Karthik and Shonali share. I love the song ‘Hey ya, I wanna get closer to you’, and every time that song plays, I seem to like everything that’s happening. The first half makes for a better watch than the second. It does seem like a drag somewhere during the second half but you convince yourself by saying, ‘It’s a different genre of film. Not a typical bollywood masala’
I call it a must-watch-film. Go, book yourself a ticket this weekend!

WYR: An Unending Saga!
Posted: September 25, 2009 04:17 by kamiya
If Ashutosh Guwarikar is to be taught any cinema lessons, it would definitely be time management! For epic sagas like Jodha Akbar or Lagaan, that may be still understandable but for a romantic comedy like What’s Your Rashee, three and a half hours is seemingly… well… LONG!
Yogesh Patel played by Hurman Baweja comes to Mumbai from Chicago to find a girl in 10 days. ‘Agar mein har rashee ki ek ladki se milu toh… and may be.. give myself a chance to fall in love,’ hopes Hurman.
And then, Priyanka Chopra in different avatars is all set to woo this NRI. How convincing are the traits from each zodiac sign… well...they were just 12 different girls and perhaps Rashee was a way to show them different.
What’s hot – Priyanka’s performance. From her make-up to her attire and of course her acting…. Besides her face, the characters were different!
‘I go out on all dates – Mondates, Tuesdates upto Sundates… Sorry expect Tuesdates…Vrat!,’ says the Gujju Virgo Piggy Chops.
The story had funny moments, not just by Priyanka but quirky dialogues by Yogesh Patel’s Gujju family!
What’s not hot is … Too many songs! Of course that prolonged the duration of the film and you can’t wait for it to end. No exotic locations… nothing larger than life… which you would otherwise expect from Guwarikar’s film. And his choice over the final bride isn’t convincing either.
Because you know, you have to encounter with 12 Priyankas in one movie, I expect the movie to go faster. So, if your rashee says that you are blessed with a lot of patience, may be you should go for this one. For Priyanka’s performance and Hurman’s attempt at acting, I give it a two and a half stars.

New York - Film Review
Posted: June 30, 2009 15:53 by kamiya
This calls for a celebration:
1. I saw a movie after 4 months! 2. Watching Neil and John together was a treat ;-) 3. To top that, John was nude. Hehe! 4. And of course, got to see the place New York, just for 150 bucks!
So, yes, lots of reasons to like the movie - The actors, the screenplay and thecinematography. One shot, I clearly remember - Reflection of the helicopter shownon the bonnet of a car. So, yeah, great ideas!
Talking about the storyline, it revolves around terrorism. But the fact that the suspects are treated so inhumanly was shocking to see, that too, without any evidence. And the vengeance leads to more terrorism, once the suspects are rescued. The script was convincing and so was the acting. John, especially, should get a special mention here.Besides having a sexy butt, he can really pull off a character well. Katrina has looked as pretty as ever and her stand of - standing by her husband/boyfriendis a HIT! After having seen Johnny Gaddar, Neil has proved himself as a great actorbut there was nothing challenging about his role. There is no doubt that he hada crucial role to play in the film. Agreed that Irfan Khan is not that great looking but he will still be mentioned because of his tongue-in-cheek advice J That made the film entertaining. And ofcourse, I am assuming we all know how great he is as an actor! There were bits when I was curious to know ifJohn was really guilty of terrorism and the prolonged suspense lead to boredomat one point but then it finally picked up. The climax was disheartening. We all are used to happy endings and this onedidn’t have one. But we also want reality, don’t we? I can’t think of a climaxotherwise, so I won’t blame the script writer for this.
To sum it up, it is definitely worth a watch. Whether you walk out angry, content or even ridiculing the director, do watch the film to experience the pain. Fortunately, you don’t have to carry it all your life, like them. Though, nothing justifies terrorism! But one thing, well said in the film - All wrong decisions are taken at a wrong time!

Raaz - The wanna-be mystery continues
Posted: January 26, 2009 14:57 by kamiya
The guy (don’t know his name) sitting next to me loved the film. He thoroughly
enjoyed it because after every scary scene he would turn to me to see my
reaction and crack up laughing.
And me, I would promise myself not to entertain him further but couldn’t help. I
love watching horror movies. I just enjoy the thrill. I just love preparing
myself not to be scared or yell out and end up doing the same. Raaz isn’t so
scary but there were few scenes when I jumped.
The storyline is weak but the journey isn’t so bad. Builds up the suspense
pretty well though the climax is disappointing. Kangana Ranaut is the New
Urmila Matonkar. She is best fit for such whacky roles. I found Shekhar Suman’s
son pretty average but he can act decently well. And Emraan Hashmi, I love him for
his songs, though the kajal which he must have borrowed from his wife, I think
he should just return it to her. Doesn't suit him.
For those who love scary movies just watch it to enjoy the thrill. I give it
2.5 stars on 5.

Slumdog Millionaire: It is written!
Posted: January 11, 2009 14:52 by kamiya
I knew it is about Kaun Banega Crorepati -in this film - Who wants to be a Millionaire and that’s the only information I had. But this Slumdog Millionaire had so much more than just that.
To your surprise, it’s gotta cute love story. Ten year old street child falling in love with another.. sweet, innit?
So how each question is related to this kid’s life who is born and brought up on the streets to India? Danny Boyle has done a great job and I am glad that they decided to release it in India as well. Though I felt the beginning was slow and I had to kind of force myself to be more involved in the film but as it caught pace, it caught all my attention.
Jamal Malik, all three kids who played growing up years of this character were totally interesting and Dev Patel’s straight forward dialogue delivery was convincing. Unfortunately enough, I am upset about the fact the way India is depicted. They have shown that only dirt and filth happens in India. May be they had do this to prove - why beggars are beggars! But even then, I am not too appreciative of that.
Though it is very well written and filmed. I am not convinced how he got the last two answers right for which the script-writer chose destiny as an excuse and ended it by the tagline – IT IS WRITTEN! Yes sir, well-written.
Lets see if the slumdog is able to impress his true origin – India. Slumdog Crorepati release on 23rd January. Don’t Miss it.
I give it a 3.5 stars on 5.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi!
Posted: December 17, 2008 14:20 by kamiya
They say - I need a smoke!
Others say - I need a drink!
I say - I need a movie!
And this one served the purpose. :-)
Soda glasses, loose shirt, ill-fitted pants and sport shoes. Whoa! Shahrukh has
never looked better than this. And I loved him in this film more than any
other. He stole my heart. Not the wannabe Shahrukh, the simple one!
There were bits when I felt that the movie is long but I would say the first
and last half and hour of the movie is the best.
An average looking man gets married a beautiful girl. You will ask why? Arrey,
Rab ne bana di Jodi yaar. And then how he does everything to win her heart. And
ultimately he does.
Predictable, isn’t it? But this movie is a joy only because of Shahrukh. I wasn’t
a great Shahrukh fan but now I am. I loved it. I would crack up everytime he would say - 'Punjab Power: Lighting up your house' He is working for a company called Punjab Power.
He said in one of his interviews, “Those who understand love, will like this
movie. Those who don’t, won’t!” Well for me, I love the idea of being in love
than love itself.
A special mention: We all know about the dance competition that happens in the
film. But there was another competition between duo – pani puri one. Shahrukh
wins the battle. He eats more pani-puri than Anushka. But If I was his
competitor, I swear I would have won. Trust me!
(Actually, I chose the wrong time to write this post. I am watching Salaam
Namaste at the moment and I love that film equally)
Oright then, Kabhi alvida na kehna. Always say... Hum hain rahi pyaar ke, phir milenge... chalte chalte ;-)

Aaoji Khaoji – Lucky superchor hai!
Posted: November 30, 2008 14:36 by kamiya
If you are a Sardar with a good Surdy sense of humour, bindaas attitude,
authentic Sardar accent and under 18 years old, please contact me. Under 18 because I generally like Sardars only
till that age. I am not being racist. Lot of my friends are Sikh and I love
them all. Just that I love Sardar kids more than Sardars themselves :-)
This long story because the first half n hour of the movie was about this
under-18-year-old sardar, whose name is Lucky. He always wants things to go his
way, no matter what. His cool attitude, accent and acting stole my heart.
The story did not change when he grew up. The older cut-surd Abhay Deol too is
just too charming. He is a thief and not a cool thief like Hrithik Roshan from
Dhoom but a cheap thief who doesn’t even leave show-peices or chindi photo frames. ;-)
I wouldn’t say the movie made me laugh my guts out but it did bring a smile to
my face. I did sense a bit of pain in my jaws by the end of it. Reason could
be Abhay Deol. There is something in him which the other Deol brothers don’t
have. It’s got no story line, just a fun-no-brainer-flick with a retro feel.
I know a lot of you need a break from the news channels flashing breaking news
after every five minutes. I am not saying forget the incident but be brave,
smile and fight. There is nothing that can stop you from going to a mall or a
multiplex. This is your country, not anyone else’s!
And BTW, Aaoji Khaoji was the restaurant's name started by Lucky Singh! If I ever open a restaurant, you know what it will be called :-)
Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! Oyeeeeeee Lucky!

A wednesday - For everyone who will be dead, sooner or later!
Posted: November 27, 2008 14:00 by kamiya
If you’d ask me, which was your favourite movie in the
year 2008? My instant reply would be - A
WEDNESDAY!
It’s got no bhashan, no preaching! It’s
a mirror of our condition and sadly, nothing can be done. I don’t remember a
minute I was distracted. I have never been so much into in a film, or anything
else, perhaps!
Naseerudin Shah plans a blast in Mumbai and very bravely he tells the policemen
about it. Inspite of them knowing about it, the helplessness is evident. Protecting
people is a priority and at the same time, they have to placate the terrorist
to stop them from firing/blast and find out the spots.
Crux being, today it is so simple to plan a blast. Naseerudin was no
terrorist. He was a common man. If he can do it, if he can plant a bomb in a
POLICE STATION, think about the guys who are trained for 20 years just to do
this.
It was mind boggling. It had the effect on me for a week. Sadly, yesterday was a wednesday too and the attack continues even today. And today,
again as I see the dead count going up, it doesn’t make me sad. It makes me
angry.
Angry because I am not doing anything to make it better. Angry because I do not
have the guts to go up to them and shoot them all dead. Angry because they will
do this until they are dead! Angry because I will have to wait till I am dead!
A Wednesday – A must watch for each Indian or perhaps
everyone who will be dead, sooner or later!
But if you want to do something about it before you or your loved ones die, you
can do something about it. Let’s start right away.

Dostana - Not about friendship!
Posted: November 16, 2008 09:18 by kamiya
And I thought it was a
woman's business to look HOT. I was so wrong. John Abraham has crossed all the
limits - He looked HOT! Like siiiiiizzzzzzzling HAWT.
Okay, attention! Lets talk about the movie. Dostana was exactly what I thought
it to be. And even then, I wasn’t bored. Though, there were bits when I felt,
oh its just about to get over but nope.. it went on. So yes, it was slightly
long.
It was funny. Abhishek can act really well as a gay. But John.. He is just too
manly to be a gay! As titled, the movie doesn't talk about friendship, it is
all about LOVE. Everyone in love with Piggy chops!
Maa da laadla bigad gaya gets the award for the best song.
You must be wondering why I haven't mentioned about the babe - Priyanka Chopra.
Well, to confess, jealous!
Arrey, she gets to go for all those fancy dates and that too with THREE
different men ;-) What luck! And why not, she is Sindhi in the movie and looks
nice :)
Funniest scene – when Abhishek’s mother gets to know about his son’s sexual
preference. Followed by a couple of scenes.
Hot bods, good locations, little funny, not too senti, good gay jokes. Dostana
is all about that. Worth a watch once. Recommended.
Go ahead and enjoy.
Be Happy and Gay!

EMI - Ticket liya hai toh dekhna padega!
Posted: November 16, 2008 08:43 by kamiya
Money is the reason for all the stress! I am not saying
this after watching EMI but the same morning when I saw the flick!
I got a text from Barclay Card saying I have been charged seven grands for being a
part of priority circle. Huh... What is that? While I was busy at work, these
customer care executives had called once.
'Ma'am, a free gift for you.'
'What for?'
'You are a part of priority circle'
'Okay. Whatever that means. Is it for free?'
'Ofcourse Ma'am'
'Alright then. Bring it on'
This is the brief discussion I remember and then I was charged Rs 7,000.
Painful, I tell you. Not that I am going to pay. And I don't want those free
gifts either.
Yaa. So the movie. Yes, it talks about Loan - Liya hai toh chukana toh
padega. Fair enough. But Sanjay Dutt, who is from the recovery agency comes
up with an alternative as to lets solve their problems first so that they are
able to pay up. Don't know how practical it is. I mean, of course I know. It is
not practical at all!
Wish everyone was so considerate. Blah!
But obviously that gave an emotional touch to the movie. Gandhigiri types, you
know. First half was boring but the second half was entertaining.
Worth a watch? I guess you can skip this one. Recession time. Save up, guys.
;-)
